MEDICAL ADVISORY BOARD:
Dr. Robert Graham is the Administrative Medical Director of Monarch Medical Weight Loss Center. Dr. Graham has spent over a decade in emergency medicine and is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Graham was instrumental in the development of the Monarch programs. He supervises the weight loss program and protocols for Monarch patients.
Dr. Rick Lindquist is the Clinical Medical Director of Monarch Medical Weight Loss Center. He has practiced medicine for 20 years, and has been working in Oregon since 1990. He studied at the University of Washington and completed his residency in Florida. Much of his career has been spent in emergency medicine. Besides serving as Medical Director for dozens of Fire/EMS agencies in Oregon, as well as the Lane County Sheriff’s office, he is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the National Association of EMS Physicians. He was awarded the State of Oregon EMS Medical Director of the Year in 2001. Dr. Lindquist supervises the weight loss programs and protocols for Monarch patients.
Dr. James Daskalos or “Dr. D” as he is known in the Roseburg community, has been practicing medicine in Oregon for more than 35 years. His experience includes extensive work in emergency medicine, family practice and occupational health. His many professional and community service efforts include recognition as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of America by the Jaycees, service on the Oregon State Board of Medical Examiners and president of the Roseburg High School Booster Club. Dr. Daskalos works in Monarch’s Roseburg clinic.
Dr. Eric Spencer is the Medical Director at the Eugene Monarch Medical Weight Loss Center and is one of the program’s founders. Until he founded Monarch Medical, he was a constant dieter and had tried the vast majority of the weight loss programs. His 40-pound weight loss success serves as a motivator for the many patients he sees today. Dr. Spencer earned his MD at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Spencer is Attending Emergency Medicine Physician at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.
Dr. Richard Abraham has more than 25 years of experience in medicine as an emergency physician and Medical Director in occupational medicine. He is an active civic volunteer and serves on the Board of Directors of a number of medical associations. He is also a member of the Lane County Medical Society and the Oregon Medical Association.
CLINICAL PRACTITIONERS:
Nurse Practitioner Angela Zacharek graduated from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Ky., with a masters of science in Nursing, a Nurse-Midwife Certificate and Post-Masters Certificate-Family Nurse Practitioner. She also received a bachelor of arts degree in Holistic Health Studies from Burlington College in Burlington, Vt., and received an ADN registered nurse credentials from Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. Angela‘s interest in bariatric medicine is personal. Her immediate family history includes obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. “I want to be an expert in bariatric medicine for myself, my family and my patients. Not everything is known about why we gain weight and what the best way to lose it is. By keeping up with current medical research, our clinics will be able to help our patients reach their health goals.”
Nurse Practitioner Carol Crocker‘s credentials include anAssociate Nursing degree from Linn-Benton Community College, 1980; a BSN from Oregon Health and Science University, 2002; and Master‘s in Nursing 2004, OHSU, as well as AACN certification. Carol has been a nurse for 27 years. She has worked in critical care, the emergency department and ambulatory care. She was in a management position for the last 10 years of her RN career before going back to school to receive her advanced practice degree. “I love this practice because at least once a week every week, I see someone discontinue either an antihypertensive or diabetic medication. I see people‘s self-esteem soar as they start to be more physically active and feel good in their clothes again. Secondly, I love working with people to find solutions to their individual challenges regarding weight-loss, such as finding ways to fit exercise into hectic schedules and ways to cope with emotional eating, etc... Finally, I like being a voice of reason in the crazy world of weight loss! I enjoy being able to answer people‘s questions with evidence-based responses.”
Penny Kollen, RN, graduated from nursing school in 1985 from Umpqua Community College and has worked in the emergency department and Urgent Care. For the last 10 years she has worked in Home Health and Hospice. “I have been overweight since age 6 and tried just about every diet out there ... and believe me some were really 'out there'. My enthusiasm for Monarch starts from being on the program myself. I have finally found something that really works and is increasing my energy while I have consistently great weight loss.”
Sherri Graham, LPN, is Monarch‘s Hiring and Training Manager. An LPN for five years, she also has a background in business along with a degree in education. She started out at Monarch as a nurse/medical assistant at the Coburg Road clinic in Eugene and has advanced to hiring and training staff for Monarch‘s Oregon clinics. “My hope is that by training new staff members they will share and relay my enthusiasm and love for extraordinary patient care. My desire is to have patients walk into any of our clinics and have the same quality of care and a sense of family.”
